Employers throughout NYC and NJ are encouraging more employees to return to the office. If you’re getting pushback from your team about coming back, consider the results of a study from Joblist:

  • Among Gen Z employees, 57% would prefer returning to a physical workplace compared to 34% of millennials and 37% of baby boomers.
  • These youngest employees expressed the least interest in a remote or hybrid arrangement (21%) compared to 33% of millennials and 31% of baby boomers.

In interpreting these statistics, Tim Rowley of the talent acquisition firm PeopleCaddie said Gen Z is seeking the traditional benefits of in-person work such as networking, mentorship for career progression, and on-the-job training. They want that sense of office community that cannot be replicated in WFH arrangements.

They (and the rest of your team) also want great coffee at your Manhattan, Brooklyn, or New Jersey office.

Great coffee at work as a recruitment tool

Employers are finding that offering great coffee at work is part of attracting and retaining strong talent. It’s a perk that provides convenience and camaraderie, with opportunities to refuel throughout the day with colleagues in person. Teams can recharge with a refreshing pause that boosts productivity and reduces stress. It also saves them money they’d otherwise spend on pricey coffeehouse cups.

Nespresso research revealed that:

  • 65% of employees expect high-quality coffee in the workplace.
  • 77% of employees agree that morning coffee breaks are important.
  • 92% of employees want to have a social space (coffee/lunch spaces) in the office.

Additionally, research by DeskTime revealed that 43% of office workers believe that coffee increases their productivity, 89% say that a good cup of coffee makes their day better at work, and 19% say that brainstorms are better around a coffee machine.

Establish a strong coffee culture & robust coffee program in your NY/NJ office

When it comes to a “return to the office” initiative, creating an inviting workspace and a satisfying in-office experience are at the top of the list for New York metro businesses. Offering a robust coffee program in your NY/NJ office creates a positive corporate culture fueled by a strong coffee culture. After all, coffee culture (the social and cultural atmosphere and practices around the beverage) is big—and your office coffee program should be, too.

From that first cup of coffee in the morning to uplifting breaks throughout the workday, a strong coffee program at work fosters team interactions with opportunities to socialize and re-energize in your break room. It’s an office perk that benefits employees and employers.

  •  A study by MIT found that coffee breaks among teams improved the groups’ energy and engagement which in turn boosted work performance.
  • Opportunities to relax over coffee with colleagues build trust and understanding (which creates a happier workplace), and improve alertness, concentration, memory, and employee morale, according to a study by MDPI.

Just like Central Perk in the popular TV series, “Friends,” having a break room that is well-equipped for a strong office coffee program—and is inviting to employees—can become your own workplace coffee bar centered around the premium coffees your team wants–a powerful office perk.

Supporting local NY-area coffee roasters

Our commitment to providing excellent coffee extends to our support of artisanal coffees from local roasters. As a long-time coffee distributor in the New York metro market, we’ve established relationships with local roasters that stock the break rooms of Manhattan, Brooklyn, or New Jersey businesses with whole beans and ground artisanal coffee. In addition to supporting local roasters who are also small-business owners, these relationships enable us to provide super-fresh coffee that’s closely connected to our community and produced nearby.–and.

Your employees will also appreciate the sustainability element brewed into every cup. That’s because the local coffee roasters we work with source their coffee directly from trusted farmers year after year, helping those farmers sustain their livelihood.
