Marley Coffee, the 2007 brainchild of Rohan Marley (Bob Marley’s son), has recently introduced a revolutionary new product: the sustainable single-serve, Keurig-compatible* coffee pod known as the EcoCup™.

On a recent episode of Fox Business, CEO Brent Toevs took to the air to discuss the new eco-friendly design and why this is the next step in the world of single-serve coffee.

As Toevs explained, roughly 10 billion K-Cups end up in landfills around the world, and their lack of recyclability makes them a hazard to the environment. These pods are not biodegradable, and will likely sit in landfills for years and years before finally decomposing. This produces enough waste to circle the earth 11 times.

The new Marley Coffee design, developed over the course of 4 years in partnership with Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, allows you to brew your cup, pop the top off of the pod, and easily recycle the plastic without any hassle, something you can’t do with Keurig® K-Cups.

When asked about Marley Coffee’s desire for cutting edge technology, Toevs simply states “If we’re in the coffee business, we want to lead the coffee business.”

Toevs also touches on the fact that there is true outrage over the lack of biodegradable, environmentally friendly coffee pods on the market, and hopes that the new EcoCup™ capsules can make a huge difference when it comes to the sustainability of single-serving coffee.

Another important aspect is, of course, the price. As Toevs explains, the new EcoCup™ design will not cost a penny more than the average Keurig® K-Cup.

When asked if the new Marley Coffee EcoCup™ brews a cup as good as the competitors, Toevs simply states “It’s better.”

The Marley Coffee EcoCup™ will be available in a variety of artisan blends, and are set to launch in late Summer 2015.
