Ever since those curious goats discovered a bush of red berries in Ethiopia centuries ago, coffee had gone from being consumed as “power balls” made of fat and coffee beans, to being considered a cure for many illnesses if brewed with hot water. Christians even called it a “devil’s drink” and it was illegal to consume it in the medieval Europe. And today… today we can’t even imagine a day without a cup of this warm, aromatic brew that wakes us up and keeps us awake throughout the day.

Just as there are so many different types of coffee, there are also so many different ways of brewing and consuming it. This fun infographic presents some of the most interesting coffee etiquette that you should familiarize yourself with if you want to enjoy coffee like the locals do.

Italians like their coffee short and strong, usually without milk and they take their shot of espresso standing at the bar. If you love strong black coffee, then by all means order one if you ever find yourself in Turkey or Bosnia and Herzegovina. These two countries have a very similar taste in coffee and the etiquette around consuming it is basically the same. The fun part is that you might get your fortune foretold from the coffee grounds left in your cup. Interesting, right?
